There is shadow under the trees of the forest. The fire of the shepherds patters low in the clearing. Suddenly a giant wolf steps into the circle of fire and countless eyes sparkle in the dark. The wolves have come. Can we protect our sheep?
Objective
The Night of the Wolves is a cooperative game in which players try to protect their sheep from the attack of the wolves. The fearful sheep keep trying to escape in all directions and the wolves move closer from all sides. Only dawn will drive away the wolves and the new day will show whether all the sheep have survived.
Mechanism
Using hand cards, players alternately move the shepherds in order to fight the wolves in one of the 6 board segments or push back the fleeing sheep. With each played card a sheep tries to escape elsewhere towards the edge of the forest and often the shepherds stand in their own way while trying to protect their flock of sheep. Therefore they have to act coordinated to save as many sheep as possible.
More and more wolves appear during the night and push towards the sheep. With every attack, the shepherd’s courage decreases, which affects the number of hand cards that can be played. So sometimes the players have no other choice than pausing briefly to increase their morale again. Because if the shepherds panic, everything is lost. But be careful – every rest brings the wolves closer to their goal of tearing a sheep.
